To support and grow the client base of multinationals firms, we’re seeking an enthusiastic research practitioner with 3 – 5 years agency research experience. You will work as part of an existing small New York team to service and grow the New York client base. You will also join other global team members to support client needs derived from Illuminas offices in London, Austin, Hong Kong and Shaghai as required. Illuminas only hires qualiquants – those who are method neutral in their skill set and approach to delivering the right tailored solution for a client challenge. 

The candidate’s technical skills in qualitative and quantitative research, analysis will be augmented by engaging and actionable recommendations. Illuminas seeks SWANs not stars – i.e. candidates who are Smart, Work hard and are Nice – talented but collaborative.

Job Responsibilities

  • Involved in projects spanning a range of sectors, particularly but not exclusively financial services, (mobile) telecoms and CPG
  • Qualitative and quantitative – candidate must be open to doing both and, particularly, to have experience in qualitative group moderation
  • On qualitative jobs, responsibilities will include:
    • Development of field materials – stimulus, screeners and discussion guidelines
    • Liaison with suppliers to organize fieldwork
    • Conducting fieldwork
      • Depth interviews
      • Viewed group discussion – consumer and business
      • Workshops
    • Assisting with analysis and report writing
    • Costing
  • On quantitative jobs, responsibilities will include:
    • Design, write and/ or revise questionnaires – both online and CATI
    • Liaising with data collection agencies
    • Checking questionnaire scripts and interim data to ensure accuracy
    • Check final data/ tables
    • Perform core data analysis from both tables and SPSS files
    • Create charts in PowerPoint with explanatory context for the findings
    • Costing 

Job Requirements

Have a keen interest in consumer behavior, and be an enthusiastic and inquisitive researcher.

Be confident in front of clients and should require minimal supervision when dealing with clients on day-to-day project-specific tasks

The right candidate will ideally have a base level experience of both qualitative and quantitative research techniques and have experience in:

  • Carrying out desk research
  • Writing project set up documents – screeners, guidelines/ questionnaires
  • Help writing proposals
  • Moderation
  • Analysis
  • Chart design/ report writing
  • Presenting
  • SPSS

The selected candidate will have good communication, organizational and strong analytical skills as well as good energy and enthusiasm, a strong work ethic and sense of fun.

To support and grow the client base of multinationals firms, we’re seeking a senior, seasoned research practitioner (10 years or more experience) to work alongside a London SVP Research to service and grow the client base and develop the research team.  Illuminas only hires qualiquants – those who are method neutral in their skill set and approach to delivering the right tailored solution for a client challenge.

The selected candidate will have accomplished technical skills in qualitative and quantitative research. They will also have proven team building and staff development skills and the ability to take P&L responsibility. It’s expected that after a period of time that the right candidate will lead the New York office and report direct to the Global CEO in London headquarters.

We are not interested in finding a career manager or salesperson because Illuminas’ development is relationship based and sales are mainly word of mouth as we deliver excellent research and client service.

Job Responsibilities

  • Be passionate about research and brands, be data and methodology neutral and not reliant on selling products, black box solutions, a big brand name.
  • Comfortable building a portfolio of accounts through adhoc qual research, quant research and related analysis and advice /recommendations; hard work, being as good as the last project, going the extra mile on service. Outcompete the peer group on service, superior analysis and team members who are multi methodology trained and comfortable giving succinct marketing and business advice as out.
  • Able to manage, motivate and grow teams internally and externally through strong communication of knowledge and ideas to clients and suppliers.
  • Lead and develop the business;

o    Client development and relationship building to ensure repeat business

o    Prospect and win new business

o    Build their own profile within the industry as a custom research and consultancy specialist

  • The candidate will develop and grow Illuminas in New York by using their own qual, quant and marketing advisory skills; a high level of commercial support will be supplied (IT, Finance, project and client profitability analysis by a global COO in conjunction with the US Accounting Manager (based in Texas, visits monthly to support).

Job Requirements

  • A great researcher – expertise in both quantitative and qualitative approaches with the ability to translate research into insights, ideally 10+ years experience
  • Experience working in the North American market, be comfortable there and connected to the client/agency community
  • To fit in with the Illuminas culture – entrepreneurial/creative and charismatic with a sense of humility.  Partnership business model (informally and formally where possible) rather than a public one.
  • To have had exposure to P&L responsibility but no requirement to be a financial expert.  Budgets, forecasting, project profitability and client profitability will be analyzed and supported by the US Finance team / Global COO.
